Conserve to Preserve

landscape
New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) has implemented a new Conserve to Preserve program to encourage wise energy use for the protection of our environment and natural resources. The demand for energy, especially clean, efficient natural gas, is only growing, and if action is not taken in the near future, the balance between supply and demand will continue to tighten. By conserving energy today, we can all make difference in the lives of future generations all around the world.Conserve to Preserve Seal

What is the Conserve to Preserve Savings Seal?
NJNG will use the Conserve to Preserve Savings Seal to identify any idea, tip or program that can help you reduce your energy usage and save money on your bill. Look for it on future mailings from NJNG.

How will this affect my natural gas bills?
Customers who conserve energy will see immediate savings, and will benefit the most from the new program. We estimate the average NJNG customer, following the tips below, will save approximately $332 on their natural gas bill over a 12-month period. Though it benefits all customers as well as our environment to conserve, those who don’t will not be penalized. If you’re already using these tips, you’re already saving energy dollars!

What changes can I expect?
Traditionally, most utilities try to sell as much natural gas as possible to stay in business, but our new innovative approach allows us to sell less natural gas while still providing the same safe and reliable service our customers deserve. This is a fundamental change for NJNG. We’ll no longer promote increased natural gas usage, but instead focus on conservation and energy efficiency.

How can I start conserving energy?
Use the following tips to begin saving energy and money at your home.

Lower your thermostat. Set your thermostat to 68 degrees when home and 60 degrees when away or asleep. If you normally keep your thermostat at 70 degrees day and night, this small change could save you as much as 14 percent a year. Warmer temperatures are recommended for homes with ill or elderly persons or infants. Installing a programmable thermostat can make this change even easier.*

Weatherize your home. Save 10 percent or more on your energy bill by reducing air leaks to keep warm air inside. Use caulk and weather-stripping to seal holes and cracks around windows, doors, light fixtures and walls. Purchase an inexpensive weatherization kit today!*

Reduce your hot water usage. Lower the temperature of your hot water from 140 degrees to 120 degrees and wash your clothes in cold water. Take a short shower instead of a bath. These efforts combine can result in savings of up to 10 percent.*
