Home Performance with ENERGY STAR
Home Performance with ENERGY STAR, sponsored by New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program, is a comprehensive, whole-house approach to improving energy efficiency and comfort at home, while helping to protect the environment.
Specially trained contractors participating in the program use state-of-the-art equipment to perform an in-depth home analysis. They test all the components of your home – heating/cooling systems, insulation levels, air leakage, windows and doors, appliances and lighting. Once completed, the assessment will show each recommended home improvement, the associated costs and potential savings, as well as the payback period.
Make sure to ask your contractor about the home assessment fee. For an average 2,500-square-foot home, this fee ranges from about $300 to $500. Special financial incentives are available for income-eligible households. Other customers can qualify for special financing rates or rebates. For additional information and a list of participating contractors, call 1-866-NJSMART (1-866-657-6278) or visit their Web site.
WARMAdvantage Program
When you upgrade to high-efficiency equipment, you can save on your energy costs year after year. Rebates are available toward the purchase and installation of high-efficiency natural gas furnaces, boilers and water heaters. Qualifying for rebates is easy. Look for the ENERGY STAR label and choose natural gas equipment that meets the following minimum efficiency levels:
- Furnace - Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) of 90 percent or greater
- Furnace with Electronic Commutated Motor (ECM) - AFUE of 92 percent or greater
- Boiler - AFUE of 85 percent or greater
- Natural gas water heater - Gas Appliance Manufacturers Association Energy Factor of .62 or higher
The rebate is $300 per unit for qualifying furnaces and boilers and $50 for each qualifying water heater. Furnaces with an ECM will receive an additional $100. For more information, call New Jersey's Clean Energy Program at 1-866-NJSMART (1-866-657-6278) or visit their Web site.

ENERGY STAR Homes Program
Homes that meet the requirements of the national ENERGY STAR Homes Program use at least 30 percent less energy for heating, cooling and water heating than the average new home. To help cover some of the additional cost of energy efficiency upgrades, financial incentives are available to participating builders.
Any newly constructed home with natural gas heat, electric heat and/or central air conditioning can qualify for the program. Both single-family and multi-family buildings are eligible as long as they are individually metered on a gas and/or electric utility's residential service. ENERGY STAR Products
ENERGY STAR products use less energy, save money and help protect the environment. For the typical household that spends $1,400 a year on energy bills, ENERGY STAR technology can mean a 30 percent savings on energy costs, which equals more than $400 per year.
Making ENERGY STAR qualified products more available in the Garden State is just one initiative of New Jersey's Clean Energy Program. Under the guidance of New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, this program's goal is to help our residents save energy, reduce utility costs and protect the environment. Energy-efficient choices can lower your energy bills by as much as one-third, without sacrificing features, style or comfort.
