Note: Please coordinate the installation of your natural gas appliances with your contractor to follow the installation of the natural gas service line to your home.
Before your natural gas meter can be set, the following steps must be complete:
- The fuel line that runs from your natural gas appliances must be connected to your natural gas meter bar.
- All multimeter installations require permanently labeled fuel lines.
- An approved municipal inspection sticker must be displayed on your fuel line.
- All stubs need to be capped. Individual municipal inspectors will determine if stubs need to be valued.
- An NJNG service technician will perform a natural gas piping system lock-in test.
- If your home only has rough plumbing, we'll set the meter and leave the natural gas on providing we have a good lock-in test.
- If an appliance is ready, we'll inspect it. If no appliances are ready, we'll set the meter and leave the natural gas on providing the lock-in test is good.
- If a violation is observed on any connected or installed appliance(s), the appliance(s) that do not meet code will be red tagged and turned off at the appliance shut-off valve. We'll set the meter and leave the natural gas on, providing the lock-in test is good.
- If any part of the piping system is not accessible, it will be documented in our service report. If the lock-in test is good, the meter will be set and the natural gas left on.
