Landlord Notification Program

NJNG offers a Landlord Notification Program regarding the discontinuation of natural gas service to tenants. This program can help prevent unnecessary discontinuation of natural gas service, especially during the cold weather. It allows you to transfer the NJNG account under your name when a tenant requests that NJNG voluntarily turn off service, or the service is scheduled to be involuntarily turned off due to the delinquency of a tenant's payment. There are three types of notification to choose from:

Full-Service Notification

Under this option, the account is transferred to the landlord when a tenant contacts NJNG to have natural gas service discontinued and the next tenant has not requested service. A $15 account-opening fee is billed when the account is transferred. In addition, if the tenant's natural gas service is scheduled to be turned off because of payment delinquency, the account will be transferred to the landlord at which time the landlord assumes full responsibility for payment. Delinquency of a landlord's bill may result in termination of this agreement, discontinuation of natural gas service or both.

Regular Service Notification

With this type of notification, the natural gas account is transferred to the landlord when a tenant contacts NJNG to discontinue service and the next tenant has not requested service. A $15 account-opening fee is billed when the account is transferred at which time the landlord assumes full responsibility for payment. Delinquency of a landlord’s bill may result in termination of this agreement, discontinuation of service or both.


Limited Service Notification

NJNG will send written notice to the landlord when a tenant contacts NJNG to discontinue service and the next tenant has not requested service, or the tenant's service has been discontinued because of delinquent payments. As such, it is important that the landlord ensure that NJNG has a current address and telephone number.

To sign up for the Landlord Notification Program, simply download the form and complete all the requested information. Your signature is required, so please be sure to sign at the bottom.

Please note:  If the form is not completely filled out, it will be returned to you and the residential property (ies) will not be enrolled in the program until the completed form is returned to NJNG.
