Planting for Our Future

Planting for our Future

Together with our customers, NJNG has joined with The Conservation Fund to help address two critical environmental challenges: habitat loss and climate change. Through Conserve to Preserve®, customers can donate to The Conservation Fund – one of the nation’s leading conservation organizations. NJNG will match each donation, dollar for dollar.

The Conservation Fund then plants trees on a rotating basis at wildlife refuges across the U.S., including the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge in Ocean County. Since we started Planting for Our Future, more than 62,000 trees have been planted!

CTP Trees

So, how does planting trees effect the environment?

As the trees in the refuges mature over time, they trap tens of thousands of metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) — a greenhouse gas. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that just one tree will trap one ton of CO2 over its lifetime. The Conservation Fund estimates the ‘carbon trapping’ from the trees we’ve planted is enough to offset the average emissions from more than 12,000 cars on roadways each year!
