Congratulations to Linda Z. of Farmingdale, who won $1,000 in NJNG’s Save With Your Smart Thermostat Sweepstakes, which took place in January and February 2022. Linda posted a photo on our Facebook page showing us how she saves energy and money at home when using the special settings on her smart thermostat.
Do you know how to use your thermostat presets at your house? Here’s a helpful primer.
If you have a Google Nest smart thermostat, the Nest™ Leaf icon will appear when your thermostat is set to an energy-saving temperature. The Leaf encourages you to choose energy-saving temperatures that are a little lower or higher than usual:
- When heating, the Nest Leaf will appear when the temperature is set to 62°F or below.
- When cooling, the Nest Leaf will appear when the temperature is set to 84°F or above.
You can also use the Eco Temperatures preset to allow your thermostat to adjust to energy-saving temperatures manually or in a predetermined temperature schedule. Learn how to manually set the times your thermostat will switch to Eco Temperatures (i.e., when you know you’ll be away) here. You can also use the Home/Away Assist feature on the Nest app so your thermostat knows when you’re not home and it can switch itself to Eco Temperature.
On an ecobee smart thermostat, the eco+ mode delivers personalized energy recommendations by looking at things like local weather and home occupancy to shift your home's energy usage accordingly. And, eco+ is compatible with the following smart thermostats: ecobee SmartThermostat with voice control, ecobee3 lite, ecobee4 and ecobee3.
Once you set up eco+, you ‘ll receive a monthly email detailing your energy consumption for the previous month. Learn more how to customize the eco+ mode in ecobee models here.
