Jamesburg Replacement Project

About the Jamesburg Transmission Line

The Jamesburg transmission line is a critical part of NJNG’s delivery system that interconnects to a primary supply point and reliably delivers natural gas to more than 486,000 customers in Monmouth and Ocean counties.

The Jamesburg Replacement Project will upgrade approximately six miles of transmission main that was originally installed in the 1960’s to enhance the safety, reliability and resiliency of NJNG’s delivery system that customers depend on for their homes, businesses and quality of life — while supporting the growing energy needs of the region. The modernization of this

pipeline also helps mitigate operational risks to the system by ensuring a dual-supply interconnection.

Construction on the Jamesburg transmission line will commence at the end of 2025 and take roughly a year to complete, with final restoration work scheduled for the end of 2026.

Construction will take place within NJNG’s existing right of way and some public roadways.  NJNG will be working closely with local communities and residents along the project route to manage and mitigate any disruptions.

About the Route

The Jamesburg Replacement Project will upgrade six miles of pipeline infrastructure through parts of Freehold, Manalapan and Monroe Townships. This project will be installed within NJNG’s existing right-of-way, beginning near Spotswood-Englishtown Road in Monroe Township, continuing through Manalapan Township and concluding near Route 9 in Freehold Township.

Our Commitment to Safety

Whether you’re at home, work or in a public place, it’s likely you’re in an area served by the 2.4 million miles of pipelines that deliver natural gas to almost 70 million residential, commercial and industrial customers in the United States. In fact, according to the United States Department of Transportation, pipelines are the safest form of energy transportation.

NJNG works with industry leaders, peer groups and regulators to continually improve our pipeline safety operations, including design and construction techniques, inspection programs and workforce instruction. We conduct extensive training and periodic drills with emergency responders and state and local agencies to test procedures, logistics and communications, and ensure emergency plans are in place. Safety of the general public, our customers and employees is NJNG’s highest priority. We

voluntarily adhere to the highest standards of safety and follow the most stringent federal and state design standards for projects such as this.

Following completion of the replacement project, the Jamesburg line will continue to be monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Valves will be installed along the line, enabling NJNG to remotely shut off the flow of natural gas if necessary. Leak surveys will also be conducted annually.

Additionally, federal regulations require utilities to have effective Emergency Response and Operating and Maintenance Procedures in place. NJNG works closely with emergency responders and local officials to protect our system and the communities in which our infrastructure is located.
