Obtaining a Meter Read

We strive to ensure the accuracy of your bill. That’s why it is important to obtain an actual meter read each month so you are charged for the exact amount of the natural gas you used. This eliminates the need for us to estimate your usage to generate a monthly bill. We obtain an actual read via an Automated Meter Reading (AMR) digital device or a field visit by an NJNG employee to your premises.

For meter reading and other safety purposes, please keep your meter unobstructed at all times to provide safe, clear access for our employees.

Manual and Estimated Meter Reads
and Your Next Scheduled Reading

Customers in Ocean and Morris Counties have their meters read manually. If the meter is on your premises or inaccessible, please call us at 800-221-0051 to make special arrangements.

If we are unable to get a regular reading of your natural gas use, we must estimate your monthly charges. To help keep your bills accurate, you can submit your own meter read before your next scheduled bill date (which appears on the upper left-hand side of your NJNG bill); instructions on how to read your meter.

Once we obtain an actual meter read, we will update your account.

When in Doubt, Ask to See a Company Photo ID
